I am majoring in Biological Science and also obtaining a minor in Music, and Chemistry. I am planning to go to Dental School and join the DDS/PhD dual degree program. My research project through HHMI is to determine the function, regulation, and structure of an unknown protein associated with uptake of copper into mouse embryonic fibroblasts. This summer specifically, I conducted kinetics studies on this unknown protein to understand the mechanism of the uptake into the cells.

HHMI exposes the students to all different aspects of research very well and is the best way for students to explore what a future career would be like in research. It is more intense than I had imagined, which is great. Even though I have only been conducting research in lab for 2 months, I have a very good understanding of what a PhD program would be like.
