I am currently a senior biochemistry major at CSU Fullerton. I have conducted undergraduate research for 17 months and have been a part of the HHMI Program for 14 months. My current research project involves surveying the copper-binding proteome in mammalian blood plasma. Most notably, I am working on helping to identify novel copper-binding plasma chaperones while also exploring how and why taking birth control typically doubles total plasma copper levels. I have also attended the 2013 Integrated Biological Sciences Summer Research Program at the University of Wisconsin- Madison where I aided in producing a recombinant form of the potentially-amyloidogenic protein human cystatin C before subsequently probing its kinetic and structural parameters. My research interests have always been centered around understanding the relationship between a protein’s structure and function and how disrupting this relationship promotes the development of disease, particularly involving amyloidogenic and metabolic disorders. To this end, I am currently pursuing Ph.D. programs in the fields of Biochemistry and Biophysics after I graduate in the spring of 2014.
