I am a third year Biochemistry major and continuing my first year of research with Dr. Salzameda. I am a two-year HHMI scholar and am currently trying to find small molecule inhibitors for the Botulinum Neurotoxin E. I am doing this by synthesizing a diverse library of hydroxamic acids and screening them through a FRET assay. The potential inhibitors will then be further studied.

I received the CSUF Associated Students, Inc. research grant in 2010. I am also a member of the American Chemical Society and presented a poster at the 2011 national meeting in Anaheim. I hope to continue attending and presenting at more meetings.

I plan on attending a MD/PhD program when I graduate. The HHMI program has given me a better understanding of what a PhD program would be like and I enjoy the research aspect very much.
